Damon Salter is an old Vampire who was born in 1082 A.D. He is also a member of The Salter Family. The Vampire Diaries novel puts Damon's age at more than 700 years old; whilst the memories of his involvement in efforts against first-generation Werewolves in Legacies makes him at least 900 years old.
Early Life[]
Little is known about Damon Salter's early life, though it is known that his family was of great wealth and stature.
Joining The Order[]
In 1107 Damon would be shot with an arrow (by a thief) and would start bleeding profusely. Because the bleeding failed to stop he would try and try to stop it once more with various fabric, but to no avail. Damon would soon be found by Darius Salvatore, who would kill the thief by stabbing him in his neck. Damon would not long after this be given a choice by Darius. This is because he could only pity a man who had no hope left in his heart. Damon either could die by blood loss, becoming known as a man who was killed by a petty thief... or he could become a Vampire and serve in his group known as The Order.
Becoming Leader of The Order[]
In The Early 1400s Damon would become the leader of The Order and would reign over it for over almost 6 decades.
Personality[]
Damon is a domineering and power hungry individual. He has a controlling personality and treats all of those who are lower than him in social standing with mild disdain, which makes it seem as though he considers those lower than him to be less intelligent and not worthy of any form of respect. Damon is incredibly arrogant and unpleasant to be around. His incompetent bureaucratic manner of running things leads many to question his authority particularly people like Magnus in the 1700s. He even goes so far as to claim that Damon runs the order with "all the scatter shod skill of a blind clown." This opinion is backed up by his incompetence at keeping an Unknown Rakshasa-Hybrid contained. Because of His condescending attitude this means that he has very few if any allies at all (aside from the order). He also can be seen by others as a spineless coward who refuses to put himself in direct danger. His unpleasant, controlling and condescending manner could indicate that he was born into privilege and is used to having people do as he says.
Physical Appearance[]
Damon has piercing blue eyes and dark brown hair. In The Vampires Diaries novelization, he was described to have a mane of shoulder-length black hair and piercing black eyes. He also has a well-built chest and biceps that were said to be impressive even by vampire standards.
