- "Goodbye, Desmond."
- ―Rayna Cruz in Kill 'Em All
History[]
Early Life[]
- "No, I was the untalked about one. The pathetic one, the foolish one, the irritating one. The illegitimate. You see, my family cared little for me, as if I was trash on the macadam. Turns out being the son of the monarch is no good if you're a bloody bastard."
- ―Desmond confesses his life as the bastard child of Henry VII to Sebastian
Desmond was the eighth child of monarch, Henry VII. An illegitimate child, rarely acknowledged by his father, Desmond was treated as filth, and would never truly be accepted as his father's son. He despised his half-siblings, albeit due to jealousy, wishing the lot of them dead. When he turned 12, his mother arranged for him to go live with his maternal relatives in the more southern part of England, a small settlement by the name of Southampton.
Early 1500s, South Hampton[]
Desmond would be turned by Darius Salvatore into a vampire, and would slowly search for him, for over a century, up until 1612.
1612, North Carolina[]
Desmond would come to find Darius Salvatore conversing with Sebastian Salvatore and Arthur Stevenson in a local theatre for entertainment. Desmond stops Darius, before he can get comfortable in his seat, and they converse for a while, before Darius "rewards" Desmond by allowing him to travel with him and his other companions for a time.
1700s, Europe[]
Desmond accompanies Darius on his journey to the Americas, specifically, a small settlement, that would later become known as Mystic Falls, Virginia. Darius and Desmond travel together for a year, before Desmond is severely injured and has his neck magically snapped, and Darius is neutralized using an Elder Dagger. After he heals, Desmond attempts to look for Darius for decades, eventually locating his body in 1799, via Sofia Leroux's locator spell.
1804, Haiti[]
In 1804, Desmond helps cover-up Darius' 1804 Haitian massacre.
1808-1812[]
Desmond and Darius go on vacation to Venice, Italy for a time, and the two later fight in the War of 1812 together.
1901, Newcastle, England[]
Whilst in a pub, Darius and Desmond are almost staked in the heart but quickly avoid it, leading to the death of an unnamed human. It was Rayna Cruz. Rayna, shocked that her former lover still breathes, would attempt to kill him by sending a likely-fatal blow into his heart, although Desmond moves in the way, and takes the attack. He tells Darius to get away and to forget about him, before having his soul trapped in the Phoenix Stone. Darius turns off his humanity in order to not care about Desmond, and abandons the pub.
2017, Lompoc, California[]
After being freed from the Phoenix Stone with its destruction, Desmond found himself in the body of a Californian Vampire. He attempts to reconvene and find Darius Salvatore, hoping to pick back up from where they left off in 1901, although before he can cross the Californian border that would cross into Oregon, he staked by a member of the Armory.
Personality[]
Desmond was a maniacal, lunatic vampire, who killed for mere sport, and existed even before the proclaimed 'golden age' of both vampirism, and piracy. A good friend of Darius Salvatore since the 1620s, Desmond was responsible for a string of murders that occured along the eastern hemisphere during the 1880s.
Despite his psychopathic tendencies, Desmond cared much for his companions. He risked his life and saved Darius Salvatore, his sire, on multiple occasions, even taking a likely-fatal blow from the Phoenix Sword for him.
After the Phoenix Stone is destroyed, Desmond is freed, and finds himself into the body of an unnamed vampire. He immediately goes searching for Darius Salvatore, hoping to pick back up from where they left off in the 1900s, although, he is stopped in his tracks before he can find him, and is killed by a member of the Armory.
Physical Appearance[]
Desmond was a handsome dirty blond-haired, blue-eyed man with a signature patronizing glare, who appeared to be in his mid-to-late 20s. Due to the formal dress that was characteristic of upper-class men in the centuries before his imprisonment, Desmond was usually seen wearing a suit of some kind.
Powers and Abilities[]
Desmond possessed all the standard powers and abilities of a non-Original preeminent vampire. Being over 600 years old, and 500 prior to his imprisonment, Desmond proved to be much stronger than typical vampires. He was also fairly skilled in the field of archery, and could easily hit targets from many meters away.
Weaknesses[]
Desmond had the typical weaknesses of a non-Original preeminent vampire.
