Jordan is the great-grandson of Liam Grant someone who Stefan killed in the 1920s. Jordan was sired by Darius Salvatore after he accidentally killed many at a party. In order to try and fix his mistakes, he would sire Jordan Grant as well as many other humans who would later become vampires. Jordan grant would become notorious throughout the supernatural world as an elite boxer. He thanks Darius' for turning him into a vampire because it was the greatest gift anyone had ever given to him and it helped him turn his life around.
