Nik Mathias Mikaelson is a powerful and unique supernatural being, the son of Freya and Keelin as well as Vincent Griffith. One of the only remaining Mikaelsons and one of the two only second generation - the other being Hope, Daughter of Niklaus and Hayley.

History[]
Early Life[]
In 2017-18, Freya and Keelin decided they wanted to have a baby to follow the footsteps of Klaus and continue the Mikaelson bloodline. Seeing as they are both women they asked one of their only living male friends, Vincent, to be the sperm donor. He was hesitant at first but eventually realised that if he could play even a small role in bringing them happiness then he should do it.
Freya used magic to blend hers and Keelin's eggs together before being artificially impregnated with Vincent's seed to ensure that the baby would be equal parts of all of them.
Due to the threat of the Hollow and other Mikaelson enemies, they reluctantly agreed that either Nik had to grow up really fast or they had to send him away, cloaked by spells. Keelin and Vincent agreed on the first choice and Freya and Vincent working with Davina Claire managed to speed up his aging process slightly.
He spent much of his life in New Orleans studying with the nine covens and training out in the bayou once he activated his werewolf side. Nik frequently visits Hope Mikaelson at the Salvatore School for the young and gifted, bringing Beignets with him much to her delight.

Legacies[]
Nik was present when Josie Saltzman visited Freya in the French Quarter looking for a in depth analysis of the japanese purge incantation she learned from siphoning black magic. As his memories were also wiped by Malivore, Josie's spell knocked him out alongside Freya.
Afterward, he visited Hope once more alongside Freya at the Salvatore school at the end of Commonwealth day. They shared a tearful embrace. In an attempt to help Hope, Nik summoned a mythical monster to resurrect Landon kirby although the monster actually deceived them. Shortly after, he fought a banshee trying to invade the school.
Freya mentioned that Nik wanted to come when Hope Mikaelson was starting the process of transition but was caught up visiting Rebekah and Marcel in New York. When the news of a Tribrid with no humanity rampaging wild struck the supernatural world, Nik returned to mystic falls at once having also brought Rebekah with him as backup and to try an emotional appeal to his cousin.

Personality[]
He displays considerable anxiety throughout his appearance, and often adjusts his hair, chews gum, fidgets, or rubs his chest when uncomfortable. According to Hope, Nik suffers from panic attacks in which case he loses control of his magic and explodes not too dissimilar to her own outbursts. He can however be very impulsive, determined, and stubborn, often displaying a playful demeanor with his cousin but also shows unwavering loyalty with him even threatening to kill the students at the Salvatore school if they attempt to kill a fellow Mikaelson. Showcasing that he takes the oath of "always and forever" extremely seriously. Nik also believed that Hope should be left alone after her humanity being switched off as he thought she needed time to relax and be free and thought that eventually she would turn it back on.
Additionally, he made fun of Malivore and other "monster" species like Fairies by saying he misses the good ol' days of just Vampires, Werewolves, and Witches with the occasional subsect like Siphoners, Augustine Vampires or Seers. He is a member of the LGBT community specifically indicating that he is homosexual which Lizzie Saltzman later confirms.
Physical Appearance[]
Nik is a man of biracial descent appearing in his (biological) teenage years with short-to-medium length black hair, blistering dark brown eyes, a athletic body build possibly ectomorph, clean shaven smooth face (most of the time), an oval facial structure, and stands at around 5 foot 7 inches. Hope has commented on his resemblance to Vincent and somewhat Keelin.
When using his magic, sometimes, his hands shine with a golden aura-like radiance, a unique phenomenon not common in other witches, that visually seems similar to the Siphon glow. Reasoning for this has not been explained as of yet with even Freya stating its one of life's mysteries. However, it is possible that the Werewolf curse has affected his inherent power to manifest in this way.
When transformed, Nik appears to resemble a normal wolf yet larger, tougher and with glowing yellow eyes, sharp fangs strong enough to tear flesh and black-ish fur with hints of silver.
Powers and Skills[]
- Witch Gene: As a first born witch of the Mikaelson/Norwegian bloodline with the added potency of the Griffith line, Nik is an extremely powerful witch possessing "devastating" power tainted by the dark magic of the 1,500 year old werewolf curse and his subsequent werewolf aggression from which he can channel further strength via the negative emotions. However, he has noted he is nowhere near as strong as Hope Mikaelson but he managed to last longer in a fight with her than the others although it should be noted neither of them was fully trying due to being blood relatives and therefore emotionally hindered. He typically casts spells in Yoruba or Italian but has also used Norwegian and latin.
- Channeling: To invoke additional strength as needed, Nik can borrow the power of another witch or enhance his magic through celestial objects and/or events such as by channeling the sun or the moon, nature/elements, a comet, meteor shower, eclipses, or etc.
- Sleep Manipulation: With a simple snap of his figures and/or a wave of his hand, he can send people into a deep sleep from which they wake up in about an hour unless he reverses it or the magic is siphoned.
- Electrokinesis (limited): Nik was able to fire a small bolt of yellow-orange lightning at a target which could even stun vampires.
- Telekinesis: He has the ability to mentally influence both objects and people without physically touching them through gestures. This does not require a spell and is separated from his incantation dependant telekinesis. Nik used this to break the cursed shackles placed on him with a simple click of his fingers - a feat rarely seen.
- Pain Infliction: By clenching his fist, Nik can inflict drastic pain in others by making their blood vessels pop thereby inducing an aneurysm.
- Spell Casting: Nik has the standard witchly ability to cast spells and perform rituals which have an effect upon reality and the world around him.
- Dark Summoning Spell: The spell summons any manner of creature, even across dimensions. However, it is draining and can only summon the being in astral form if they naturally reside in the Limbo realm. It's incantation is; "Surge peregrinus, profundus lemures talis". He used this to summon Charon, the Ferryman of limbo.
- Mystical Transportation Spell: This spell enables Nik to either transport an object or, through more power, a person, across short-mid distances. It's incantation is; "Phesmatos lacus".
- Mind Link Spell: He can perform a deep dive into a person’s mind allowing him and others to view their memories even if they have been magically erased previously. This spell is “Excrucior arcanis animus secretis, Ostende mihi quod vetitum est.”
- Magic Negation Spell: Described as a cleansing spell, by speaking “Finis Habentis maleficia” he can stop all magic in a certain area or halt the progress of a spell.
- Fire Spell: He set a magical creatures skin on fire by casting ”tua cutis fiat ignis” which also caused it to explode shortly after. By casting; "Seda", Nik ignited several candles. By casting; "Da Ina", Nik launched a fireball from his hand.
- Containment Circle Spell: By casting “In luce stellarum contineat ea sigilium”, Nik is capable of forming a shimmering circle of light to contain a target and suppress any Magic inside. Though, Hope Mikaelson was able to overcome it.
- Silencing Spell: The spell works by throwing a handful of salt into a lighted candle. As long as the candle is lit, no one, including vampires and hybrids will be able to hear anything. Instead, all they will hear is a sizzling sound. The incantation is; "Edacay".
- Salt Boundary Spell: This spell creates a barrier that can selectively trap certain species, typically Vampires, within a boundary drawn with salt. The incantation is; "L'agbara ina yi, o le lò ó".
- Echolocation Spell: A spell that materializes the voice into a ball of sound and radiates outward. Once the sound has come into contact with another object, it will reverberate and emit a call out to Nik. The incantation is; "Ohun. Pada."
- Werewolf Gene: As part Werewolf, he possesses the standard abilities inherent within all activated wolves. Even before he triggered the curse, Nik has displayed enhanced agility and strength with Vincent referring to him as a "star athlete". His mother made him a kyanite ring in order to grant him similar capabilities to evolved werewolves of the crescent bloodline namely transformation control. Uniquely, he was able to retain his witch-ly "mojo" despite the curse being invented to replace inherent magic. A trait he shares with his cousin, Hope Mikaelson.
- Super Strength: Nik possesses supernatural strength that makes him far stronger than immortals, Supernatural Hunters, and humans. However, he is not as strong as a vampire and have even been shown to be far weaker than baby vamps such as Kaleb or MJ.
- Super Speed: As a werewolf, Nik is much faster than humans and some other supernatural beings.
- Super Agility: He possesses superhuman agility in both human and wolf form, he has demonstrated that he can move, jump very high, climb, flip, and run incredibly fast without difficulty or exhaustion. He can also jump down from incredible heights with almost gravity-defying grace.
- Super Durability: Nik can withstand far more trauma than humans without nearly as much discomfort or injury.
- Enhanced Healing Factor: Nik possesses superhuman regenerative abilities, meaning that if he is physically injured, Nik's body will heal rapidly repairing it. However, mortal wounds may overwhelm this and he cannot recover from heart extraction, decapitation, or having his neck snapped.
- Super Senses: Nik has extremely keen and heightened senses of smell, sight, taste, hearing, and touch that exceed his wolf counterparts and that of regular canines.
- Lycanthrope Enhancement: He is able to make his eyes glow dim yellow when angry or threatened, but only for a short amount of time. During this time, his strength and abilities are heightened to rival that of young vampires.
- Shapeshifting/Transformation Control: During a full moon, ordinary werewolves will unwillingly transform from their human form and into their wolf form. However, due to his kyanite ring gifted to him by his mother he can control when and if he transforms though his first was a rite of passage and could not be avoided. During the process, every bone in his body is broken and he either has to remove his clothes or they will be ripped to threads.
- Werewolf Bite: His venom is extremely lethal to non-original vampires with it acting as an poison of sorts that will enter the bloodstream and deliver the toxin throughout the body, producing discomfort and weakness, developing uncontrollable hunger that progresses to delusions, hallucinations, rabid rage, and dementia, culminating in death.
- Immunity to Silver: As a werewolf, he is naturally immune to magic bonded to silver. Weapons made of silver might wound him, but the wound still heals at supernatural rates and will not be fatal to Nik.

Weaknesses[]
- Wolfsbane: Due to his werewolf side, Wolfsbane is capable of burning his skin upon contact and inducing symptoms such as fever and weakness when ingested.
- Mortality: As he is technically mortal, despite having Magic and werewolf attributes, Nik has the standard vulnerabilities of a Human as he can be killed by poison, grievous injuries/brute force, decapitation, having his neck snapped or heart extracted, and old age.
- Magic: Spells & Rituals cast by other witches are able to affect Nik but due to his own magical power he can counter most attacks or traps.
- Nature: As the most powerful force in the universe, Nature has near unlimited sway over Nik as it is able to empower or strip him of his magical birthright and he is tied to the lunar cycle of the moon without his special ring. However, he was somehow able to bypass the supernatural law that says Witches cannot be Werewolves at the same time.
- Emotions: Nik's magic, like all Witches, is tied to that of his emotions becoming stronger when experiencing anger or worry or confidence but weaker when feeling self-doubt or fear.
- Distraction: If he becomes distracted while chanting a incantation, the spell will not have the desired influence that Nik intended for it to have.
- According to Dahlia, firstborns of her family's bloodline inherit great power; however, it is unstable and will damage and, ultimately, kill the witch if they are not taught to contain it. Furthermore, as a possessor of the werewolf gene, Nik will experience bouts of severe aggression in which his magic will be uncontrollable.
Name[]
In English Baby Names the meaning of the name Nik is: Lord. Abbreviation of Nicholas. Mythological Nike was Greek goddess of victory and root origin of 'Nicholas. He is named after his uncle and his mother's brother, Niklaus Mikaelson.
Mathias originates from the Greek name Matthaĩos (Μαθθαῖος), which derived from the Hebrew name Mattityahu (מַתִּתְיָהוּ). It means: Gift of God or more accurately Yahweh and is a tribute to Freya's long dead first love, Mathias.
Mikaelson is of Scandinavian origin and means "Son of Mikael".
